About this service
District housing offices issue the housing entitlement certificate (Wohnberechtigungsschein, WBS) needed to rent subsidised social housing, and process housing benefit (Wohngeld). Apply to the office of the district where you are registered; if you are moving to Berlin from elsewhere, you can choose any Berlin office. The WBS can be applied for online, costs nothing, is usually valid for one year, and does not guarantee you a flat. Your income determines which WBS type you get.
