Assumptions and sources

Valid for: 2026 (Berlin). Official fees and prices checked on 2026-10-05; transport and contribution figures change on 1 January each year.. Last checked on 5 October 2026.

Assumptions

  • Amounts with a sourceUrl to an official fee schedule or price list (visa €75, residence permit €100, photo €6, registration €0, certified copies €5 per page, accelerated procedure €411, Deutschlandticket €63, broadcasting fee €18.36) are official 2026 values. Everything else is an editable assumption.
  • Rent-related defaults assume a 50 m² flat at the IBB median asking rent for 2025 (€15.78 per m² net cold) plus the Berlin average operating and heating costs for billing year 2024 (€3.43 per m² in total). Actual offers vary by district, building age and condition.
  • The deposit default is the legal maximum of three net cold rents for that example flat; many landlords ask for the maximum, some for less.
  • Temporary accommodation assumes two months at €1,500 per month, because no official statistic on furnished temporary rents exists.
  • Travel (€400), shipping (€1,500), furniture (€2,000), documents (€300), electricity (€50 per month), internet (€35), mobile (€15) and groceries (€300) are rough, conservative placeholders for one adult and should be replaced with your own quotes.
  • Health insurance for employees is treated as a salary deduction and therefore excluded from the default monthly total; use the net salary tool for it.
  • Visa and residence permit fees apply only to non-EU citizens; set them to 0 if you are an EU/EEA/Swiss citizen or exempt.
  • Prices are for 2026. Transport fares and the Deutschlandticket change on 1 January 2027 (Deutschlandticket €66.80).

Assumptions and sources are written in English.
