On this page
Barcelona's public transport is run by several operators — TMB (metro and city buses), FGC (Catalan government railways), TRAM and Rodalies de Catalunya (commuter and regional trains) — but they share one integrated fare system managed by the Autoritat del Transport Metropolità (ATM). Prices depend on the number of zones you travel through, not on how many modes you use, and you can transfer between modes within a time limit. Barcelona International Welcome notes that zone 1 is usually enough if you travel only within the city.
Tickets are loaded onto T-mobilitat, a contactless system available as a card or as a mobile wallet on phones with NFC. Validate every time you enter a vehicle or station.

Main tickets and 2026 prices
The 2026 fares took effect on 15 January 2026. The ATM kept a 50% discount on the T-usual and T-jove (and on social passes for large and single-parent families and unemployed people), while other tickets rose by an average of about 3.5%.
- T-usual — unlimited journeys for 30 days from first validation. Personal: it is linked to your ID document and only you may use it. Zone 1: €22.80; 2 zones €30.55; 3 zones €42.70. Valid to and from the airport metro stations.
- T-casual — 10 integrated journeys, not personal but for one person at a time, with up to three transfers within 75 minutes (zone 1). Zone 1: €13.00. Not valid at the Aeroport T1 and T2 metro stations on line L9 Sud.
- T-jove — unlimited journeys for 90 days for people under 30, at one price for all zones: €45.50.
- T-16 — a personal card for children aged 4 to 16 that allows unlimited travel within the fare zone of the municipality where the child lives; issuing the card costs €4.50. Children must carry their ID when travelling with it.
- Other tickets include the T-familiar (8 journeys shared by several people) and day tickets.
A 1-zone pass first validated in zone 1 can only be used in zone 1 until it expires. Use the ATM zone calculator if you commute from outside the city.
Getting a T-mobilitat card
- Personalised plastic card: €4.50, from the T-mobilitat website or app or a service point. Needed for the T-jove and recommended for the T-usual.
- Mobile virtual wallet: €1.00, on phones with NFC.
- Cardboard card: available from ticket machines and sales points (the ticket costs €1 extra on cardboard). Top up through the T-mobilitat, TMB or FGC apps, at ticket machines or at authorised sales points.
The network
- Metro: TMB lines L1 to L5 and L9 to L11, plus FGC lines in the city. Metro and FGC lines connect at stations such as Catalunya and Espanya.
- Buses: TMB buses serve every neighbourhood, with night buses.
- Tram: useful along the Diagonal and towards the Besòs.
- Trains: FGC and Rodalies connect Barcelona with the metropolitan area and the rest of Catalonia.
- Montjuïc funicular: integrated into the metro network.
Bicing, the city's bike-sharing service
Bicing is Barcelona's public bike-sharing service for everyday trips. The flat-rate subscription costs €50 a year: the first 30 minutes on a mechanical bike are free, electric bikes cost €0.40 for the first 30 minutes, and longer trips are charged by time. A pay-per-use plan costs €35 a year. A metropolitan subscription combining Bicing and AMBici costs €65 a year (2026 prices on Bicing's website).
Watch out
Personal passes such as the T-usual and T-jove cannot be shared; using someone else's pass counts as fare evasion.
The T-casual cannot be used at the airport metro stations; use a T-usual, T-jove or an airport ticket, or take the train or bus.
Common mistakes
Buying T-casual cards every week when a T-usual would be cheaper for daily commuting. Forgetting to validate when changing lines or modes; validation records your transfer.
Tips
If you are under 30, the T-jove covers all seven zones for 90 days at a single price. Get a personalised plastic card if you use passes; you can block it if you lose it. Children aged 4 to 16 can travel with their own T-16 card; apply once you are registered in the padró.
Frequently asked questions
