About this service
Registry offices record births, marriages and deaths, issue the matching certificates (Urkunden) and handle declarations about names. Each of Berlin's 12 districts has its own registry office, several with more than one location; appointments are booked through the Service-Portal. A separate state office, Standesamt I in Berlin, mainly handles civil-status matters of Germans who live abroad.
